“One male poet approached me after a performance and said, “I don’t mean to be rude, but do you ever write about anything other than the struggles of women?” I replied, “I don’t mean to be rude, but take your finger off the trigger and I’ll stop.” After all, who among us ever wanted to speak about these things? What little girl dreams of growing up to write ‘rape poems?’ About violence? About the muffled voices of women worldwide?” -Andrea Gibson

in Northampton. Now I gotta buy my plane ticket to Boston!
I’ve been told when a human dies the Soul misses the Body.
Actually grieves, grieves the loss of its hands and all they could hold.
Misses the kissing lips, the searching tongue, the throat closing shy
reading out loud on the first day of school.
The Soul misses the weather of the…
It looks like I will be making my way to your lovely little town just in time to see Andrea Gibson in April. I inherited a little bit of money from my late grandfather’s VA settlement check and will be able to buy my plane ticket round-trip. I’m not sure if I’m going alone and I will be checking out MoHo and Smith if I am accepted (I will know about Smith before I leave, not sure about MoHo), but I need a vacation regardless of whether or not I am accepted. Super excited and slightly nervous about traveling by myself, but I think it would be a great testament to see how I’d do in the setting by myself if I were to move there for school. Tumblr friends, where do you suggest staying? I suppose I could try to do an overnight at the schools. Also, I don’t drive but I know there are lots of buses that go around the Amherst area. Lastly, should I fly into Boston or Hartford, CT? I really want to fly Virgin but I think Hartford is closer to Northampton.
Love,
Amanda

You will never lose me to the wind
You are the lightning that made me fill my chest with candles
You are the thunder clapping for the poem that nobody else wants to hear
You are an icicle’s tear watering a tulip on the first day of spring
You melt me alive
You kiss me as deep as my roots will reach
And I want nothing more than to be an eyelash fallen on your cheek
Then being collected by your fingers
And held like a wish
I promise
That whatever I do
I will always try my best
To come true
God I love this woman.cool it’s getting reblogged again :D
Andrea Gibson you are so amazing.

From last week’s performance in Berkeley. My phone hates recording things for more than 2 minutes so I got really lucky that it captured nearly the entire piece minus the last two words of “your son”.
She was talking about how she wanted a tie/bowtie to wear on stage and I gave her my bowtie to wear during the second half of her performance tonight. Such an honor!! More to come later, since it’s almost 2:30 and my brain isn’t happy being active right now.
In Berkeley! Which means that I get to ride my bike (aka best friend) and BART over!! Speaking of best friends, my bestie just got a job working at my store (Whole Foods Berkeley) in produce!! So happy for him and also for me because there’s nothing better than working with your bff.
And tomorrow I’m seeing a few excellent punk bands at my favorite venue in SF (Slim’s). They’re called the Menzingers and the Bouncing Souls.
“I grew up in the town that received the first distress signal
saying the Titanic was going down.
It was the only thing we were ever known for.
In face, we prided ourselves on our failure to save the sinking
which is maybe part of the reason I prided myself
on drinking my first fifth of whiskey…
Can’t wait to see her next week. Just found out that my best friend is going too.
